This hypertext essay was inspired by Ernest J Wilson III and Sasha Costanza-Chock's article "New Voices on the Net? The Digital Journalism Divide and the Costs of Network Exclusion."
In this article, Wilson and Costanza-Chock document the long-term and persistent exclusion of people of color in the United States from ownership and employment in the news media on various platforms (247).
This hypertext will focus primarily on African American journalists; in particular, this essay will explore exactly why African Americans are underrepresented as owners and professional journalists in ever major communications platform. In addition, this essay will also discuss the digital divide and network access for African Americans and people of African descent abroad.
